Zeitgeist

Tools: Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter, Substance Sampler, RenderMan

The still-life project Zeitgeist focused on look development, surfacing, and set dressing, with an emphasis on building believable material definition and a consistent sense of age across the scene. Each asset was developed from real-world references of vintage objects, studying material construction, surface response, wear patterns, dust, grime, discoloration, and other imperfections accumulated over time.

The materials were built in Substance 3D Painter using layered texture stacks with dedicated roughness, height, normal, and color variation to differentiate leather, aged paper, metal, glass, ceramic, wood, and fabric. The final scene was assembled in Maya and RenderMan, with set dressing focused on object placement, overlap, scale, and visual hierarchy while preserving clear material readability throughout the composition.
